Orientation can be a difficult process. Getting situated in the new environment, meeting people, and connecting with your advisor can feel overwhelming. On top of that the matriculation process may feel confusing.

First, once you have set up your mysaint account make sure to update your personal details. Next would be to do all of the mandatory training. It is a lot, but I recommend really paying attention to the parts:

  •  consent and bystander intervention

  • environmental sustainability action

  • equality, diversity and inclusion

Once you have done all this there is the matriculation event. For international students, this proves you are here legally and have your student visa. Make sure on those matriculation event days you bring your Student ID, Passport, and Visa. Keeping your visa is super important! I am someone who loses everything I touch so in my first year I lost my visa around town three times. This made travelling impossible, and the cost of getting a new one is over one thousand pounds. Luckily because it is such a small town I was able to locate it but after all the stress, I am extra vigilant. The university also does visa and passport checks one more time during the second term so this is vital to have everything!
